In aiming to understand each of these layers as training as well as an exercise to find the most suited approach to improvisation, I want to be clear in expressing that they cannot stand alone in improvisation or performance. The Conscious Dancer: 
Critical Context paper submitted to the MA Contemporary Arts programme
 
This paper explores the critical context of the concious dancer when in dialogue with the mind and body during performance improvisation.

Improvisation - leading practitioner practice
 
Material-Based Improvisation.

This section explores the use of improvisation as a tool to source material. It looks at the practice through the eyes of existing approaches used and developed by a range of artists, to explore and support the bodies ability to tap into its memory - a physical heritage of training and experience that informs our movement patterns in their present emergence.

Findings that give insight into the role of science within improvised practice.

These snippets refer to the work of Antonio Damasio, a neurologist I have concerned myself with throughout this practice. 

Performance-Based Improvisation

 

This section explores the use of improvisation. The practice is of exisiting, tested and embodied approaches used and developed by a range of artists exploring performance improvisation through practical research. The compositional tools used for in the moment decision making relate to those that influence or further question, spark or influence my own approaches.

Choreographic Concern

 

An insight into the work of Susan Rethorst and Jonathan Burrows - considering the role of the choreographer in a making process.

In concerning oneself with choreographic intention among an improvised appraoch, the drawn elements of these readings focus on the body/mind process compositionally and using score.
